Our New Bishop...

(Pictured:  Brother M (ward clerk), Brother W (1st counselor), Bishop R, Brother S (2nd counselor), and Brother G (executive secretary).)

It is funny how things go in life sometimes.  D had been serving in our bishopric for just over a year.  Our bishop had been in for about 6 years.  We knew some changes were on the horizon, but we didn't expect this!  One night we got a phone call from the Stake Executive secretary.  D just knew what was coming.  All night he kept saying to me, "Oh Dear!"  The next day we were supposed to go on our vacation to Disneyland right after sacrament meeting.  We met with the Stake President right before church, and confirmed D's fears.  D was asked to be the new bishop of our ward.  I can't even describe all of our feelings and thoughts at that time.  The only thing I can say was that it was an amazing experience.  I don't think I have ever felt the hand of the Lord more in my life at any other time.  It was awesome.  We were given a list of all the men in our ward and told to pick some counselors.  Good thing we had such a long drive to California and back!  It was a neat experience helping D pick counselors.  We took the list and went through and crossed out names that we thought for sure would not work.  A few other names stood out.  We talked, thought, and prayed.  One counselor was quickly picked.  The other one took awhile.  We had originally crossed him off the list because we thought he was too busy and his wife had barely been called as the Primary President.  But it became clear that he was the one Heavenly Father wanted to serve with D.  A couple weeks later the counselors were called.  We got to go into the Stake Presidents office and chat with him for a minute and then we went into a room right next to his office.  The Stake President had the counselors and their wives come in one at a time and talk to them, and ask them if they would accept the calling, and then they were sent into the room where we were.  It was so fun to see the looks on faces and to be there for that first meeting of a new bishopric.  One of the other wives commented on how she thought this was going to work out just great.  These men get along so well.  They laugh and have fun together and work well together.  It is so fun to watch them up on the stand together.  I am grateful D has great counselors to help him.  It has now been a year since he was put in and it has been an amazing (and hard) experience.  I can tell you that Heavenly Father is with us and helping us along the way.  It is so wonderful to watch D grow and change and help the members of our ward.  I really have the best bishop.  ;)
