Christmas 2008

Here are some pictures of all of our Christmas festivities:

We did a little play of the nativity story with the girls this year. Some were very unwilling to dress up and act their parts, but it was fun anyway.

This was the innkeeper.

The girls always get to open a present on Christmas eve.

This year they got new jammies.

And here they are in all their cute pink-ness on Christmas morning.

Grandpa and Grandma B came over bright and early Christmas morning to open presents with us.

Dad was master video taper for the morning. I was working the camers, and that is why there are no pictures of me!

M with her tea cup pup.

A with her tea cup pup (can you tell they liked them?).
Here is little K. See how happy she is.....she seems to be enjoying her Christmas right?
Well the scene that followed at breakfast would make you think otherwise:

She opened all her presents and seemed to enjoy them all. Afterwards she walked around kind of sad (she had a cold so I thought that might be why). I think she was just trying to be tough and figure things out. She completely broke down crying at breakfast and said, "I didn't get anything I want." Dad asked her what she wanted and she said, "A fur real pony." She said the only thing she liked that she got was her Barbie movie. It broke my heart! After breakfast I was talking to her about it and she said, "I told Santa's helper (the dressed up man at the ward Christmas breakfast) that I wanted the pony. I guess I should have told the real Santa." The poor little thing. Her little world was shattered. I felt so bad I cried. I know she wanted the pony, but there is no way we could afford that! She got a fur real puppy, but she REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted that pony I guess. Her faith in Santa is shattered...he isn't as magic as she thought.

She seems to have recovered nicely and is enjoying all of her presents now....thank goodness!

H's favorite gifts were these bead necklaces.

She wasn't much interested in her other gifts. She just wanted to play on the stairs with her beads.

DH spoiled me with clothes, a new crockpot, glassware, cookbooks, and lotions. It was a fun day.

My santa babies....

My sister took the most adorable picture of her first little boy in a Santa hat when he was a baby. I kind of stole her idea and did the same thing with all my girls. I am so glad I did. They are one of my favorite Christmas decorations. Aren't they cute!

Believe blocks

Stockings...

I started these stockings several years ago. And sadly, I would have to tell you that they are still not done. I still want to embroider names on them in gold.....maybe next year. The first year I made four of them and then with each additional child I have finished the others. I also made a tree skirt to match. It is saddly not done either. My original intent was to embroider gold snowflakes on it.....hmmm. I don't know if that will ever happen. I should at least sew around the hole in the middle.
Would you like to know what they are made of? I love curtains for sewing. I have used several. I have even made dresses out of them. They are so much cheaper than buying regular fabric. The burgundy fabric is a curtain. The cream cuffs are made from some napkins that I got on clearance. And you will never guess what the batting in them is! A mattress pad! We had this cheap mattress pad when we first got married. We got a new one and cut up the old one to pad the stockings. You would never to know by looking at them would you!

A few vinyl glass blocks...

These glass blocks I did as centerpieces for our last enrichment night. They have the words on one side and the nativity scene on the other. They also have lights in them. I was feeling lazy and didn't light them up for the picture.

Here is another one. This one sits on my buffet so the light can shine through it all day.

A little song...

My three year old was playing with our toy nativity scene yesterday, and singing this cute little song:

"I love Joseph,
I love Joseph,
I love Jesus,
I love everybody,
even the donkey."

My own little Curious George

My baby loves the pantry. She tears it apart on a daily basis. She has emptied the fruit snack box and the microwave popcorn box. Ruined countless paper cups, napkins, and styrofoam bowls. She has searched diligently and found a few snacks in there for her to munch on. And my least favorite....she emptied a complete box of 600 plastic spoons! Even after all of her destruction and mess, I still let her play in there. It is the only way I can get dinner made. I have moved a few things up to higher shelves though.....like that box of spoons.

The election....to a three year old....

I was talking to my three year old this morning while I was doing her hair. I told her that we have a new President. She asked who it was. I said, "President Obama". She started laughing and said, "Your'e silly mommy." I guess Obama might sound like a funny word to a three year old.

Earring holder....

M got her ears pierced for her birthday and received some cute earrings. I made her this holder for all of her earrings. They hook on the plastic canvas section in the middle. I had one similar when I was little. It is now full of earrings just waiting to be worn in another 3 weeks when she gets to take her studs out.

Baptism day....

M got baptized this weekend. It was a beautiful day. We sang the song, "When I am Baptized". In the song, there is a verse that goes like this:

I want my life to be as clean as earth right after rain.

That explains the day. The night before it had rained and the day was clean and beautiful, just like my little girl.

I am so proud of my little girl and these big important decisions she is making in her life.

We had a family get together afterwards. I wish we would have gotten some more pictures of M in her dress. I will have to take some (after I get the stain out....ARGH!!!!) and post them later and tell you all about the dress I made for her. I am a bit posted out for the day though.

Another Halloween has come and gone....

It seems like I just blogged last years halloween pictures, and here it is Halloween again. This year, we had a black cat, a ballerina, a care bear, and a witch. They had a fun time trick or treating. The care bear didn't last too long. It was getting to dark for her! Grandma and Grandpa were here for the evening, so that was fun. I was busy trying to sew a dress in between trick or treaters. It was a hectic day, but a fun one.

School parades...

Mine are the cute black cat and the cute pink ballerina.

This might have to be a new tradition...

This year we decided to make a gingerbread haunted house instead of carving pumpkins. We had a lot of fun, and none of us got slimey and no one cut their fingers. We might have to do this at least every couple of years.

Happy Birthday Hubby...

Yes, we have had a lot of birthdays this month! My husband's birthday was this last week as well. He turned 36. You shouldn't have to do dishes on your birthday, but I wasn't feeling very well that day. We did have a little party for the birthday boy though.

I was a little burned out on birthdays, so my hubby didn't get a cake (or pie which is the usual). I made chocolate chip cookies with toffee pieces instead.

I don't think the baby minded not having cake.

My hubby got a book, DVD, a coupon for a new treadmill (he says, "because he's fat"), and lots of cute cards and pictures from his girls.

Have a good year my love!
