It's a cat....it's a chicken...it's a cat...oh, I don't know...

It's a cat!!! At least, that is what I think it is, but I am not sure what IT thinks it is.
I think it thinks it is a chicken. It lives in the wood pile by our chicken coop. It is ALWAYS there. We caught it in a skunk trap twice and sent it off to a friend's farm to be a mouser, but both times it has come back. It must like it at our house. We have named her Flower. It seemed a fitting name since we caught 6 skunks in that skunk trap too. Especially since she is black and white just like a skunk! I adore her. She reminds me of my cat Smokey I had when I was little. Smokey always walked around with her tail straight up in the air and so does Flower.
She always comes to see what scraps the chickens are getting everyday. Somedays she even waits on our back porch for my husband to come and feed the chickens. She isn't bothered by the chickens at all, and the chickens don't seem to notice that she is not a chicken. My husband even caught Flower perching on the chicken perch one day with chickens on both sides of her.....unfortunately she got down before we could get a picture.
She was kind of wild and skiddish at first, but this last weekend she let my daughters pet her. She wanders around keeping track of what we are doing when we are in the yard. She hasn't let me or my husband touch her yet, but I have gotten close. I don't think she will ever be too fond of my husband especially since he dumped water on her one cold winter morning!

I like cats. I always have. I didn't realize how much I missed having one until Flower came to live with us. Too bad my hubby doesn't like them....or we would be taking her with us when we move, but then again she might not stay with us if we do. She might miss her chicken sisters.

  1. Yay! One of my guesses was right! How fun for you to have a cat again, even if it's only for a little while.

  3. that is really funny. I never thought that a cat could coexist with chickens. But then again, I am no farmer. LOL
