What Works For You: Facial Cleansers

I love learning about other people and how they do things. I always assume that what I do is "normal" until I found out how others do things. "Oh, you do that! I never thought to do it that way!" So I am going to start doing a few posts to learn more about you. What do you do? What do you like? I am curious to know.

This week I am curious about facial cleansers. This is a big issue for me right now. I am having horrible acne problems. As you can see I have used a few (and a few more not pictured here) products to try to clear up my skin. So far nothing is working.

I think most of my problems come from those pesky hormones...maybe that is why I am having worse acne then I did when I was going through puberty. So I am curious to find out what works for you. What makes your skin nice and clear? I would love to find out so hopefully I will find something that works for me.

  1. my skin is awful right now, too. i even took accutane to try to help. it helped a bit, but then i had a baby, and the hormones are a-raging. i love dove daily facial cleansing cloths to remove my makeup at night. they take off eye makeup and foam up nicely. they don't dry out my skin at all. i just use the nomral skin ones, not the cool moisture or sensitive varieties. they don't lather as well. in the morning, i use aveeno daily brightening scrub in the shower. i also love neutrogena's line of stuff in the orange labeling. ok, i'm done. i'm anxious to see what your other readers use!

  2. My face probably shows it but the only thing I use is soap. Good old Irish Spring soap. It is all I can afford. I spend most my money on my kids. I guess that is why I haven't worn make up for year, I just can't afford to pay for it so I only wear it on spiecal occasions.

  3. I use Veloicity Facial Cleanser in the evenings. It's made by Mary Kay. That stuff is awesome. It makes my skin so soft! I just use regular Zest soap in the shower in the morning and Noxema cold cream occasionally too. These seem to help, but only when I'm consistent. Let's be serious. When am I consistent?!? ;)

I too have had acne again lately. I go through stages so hopefully this stage passes soon. Good luck in your search! :)

  5. Oh, and I use Aveeno products. But I see that is in your picture already.

  6. Ity, my sister has cystic acne, she uses "Cetaphil." Her dermatologist said she needs to use a non-comedogenic cleanser and moisturizer. I guess this is the best non-comedogenic over-the-counter.

She is also only allowed to use a certain brand of make-up. I tried calling her to get the name, but she didn't answer. I will call her later and get back to you.

  7. The Acne Free products really do work... give them about 2 to 3 weeks of FAITHFULLY using them. Wash, toner, acne lotion morning and night. Don't mix ANY products with it at all. I've never had bad skin and then I started noticing some on the sides of my face and this stuff worked. If you are faithful and give it a shot and use it CONSISTANTLY without switching products around. It doesn't *play* well with others. I see it's in your picture, but if you really use it and only it for a couple weeks... it works...

  8. I use a body wash with salicylic acid. I don't remember the brand. But, I use the body wash instead of the facial wash because it is the same stuff, just cheaper to buy in the bigger bottle. (And dh is having a nap, so I can't easily check!)

In the summer I will use a moisturizer with sunscreen (Eucerin brand) if I know I'm going to be spending time outdoors.

My acne tends to follow hormones, too. And unfortunately my blemishes take longer to heal, the older I get. My worst break outs are when I first get pregnant. My best times are during the last 2 trimesters. Of course, pregnancy isn't the best long term solution!

  11. I like the Neutrogena line with the orange label. Last week I ran out and within 2 days I could tell that the acne was coming back.

  12. I don't really have a facial clenser plan. My skin gets a little dry in the winter so I use my regular st. Ives whipped silk. I drink a lot of water, I think that helps a little!

  13. I am with Chel all the way! It really does work and I have horrible acne without it.

Melnhead has it good... I knew someone like her in high school that still has perfect skin to this day with no effort whatsoever.

I sure wish acne free was anti-aging too... I hate that I am forced to use drying products so the wrinkles are free to roam as the years pass.
