Stumped....

Okay everyone, I need some help. My brother-in-law is graduating from college tomorrow, and we have no idea what to get him as a gift. Usually for someone graduating from High School we will give them $$$, but that $20 or so doesn't quite seem like the thing to give a college graduate. They don't have a home of their own, so I hate to give him something for a house. So I am asking for help with ideas...got any good ones?

  1. Wow, good luck with that. What kind of job does he have, or what field is it in? Maybe a gift certificate to a store where he can buy appropriate clothes for his job. I am lousy at shopping. Let us know what you come up with!

  2. You said "they" so I assume he is married? Maybe a gift certificate to a favorite restaurant so they can celebrate together? Or something he will have as a long term memento of the occassion. (DH's sister gave hime a mickey mouse pocketwatch when he graduated that he loves.)Or a nice thing for his desk if he's going to have one: engraved cross pen, desk set, name plate or a really cool paper weight? Have fun, and let us know what you figure out!

  3. don't say you're going to get his diploma framed as the gift for 2 reeasons: 1) it'll take like 3 months for the stupid thing to even show up, 2) $$$$-when did framing double in price? apparently some time in the 10 years since i got my husband's diploma framed.

  4. I don't see why $$ won't work as a gift. My DH and I both got $$ from my in-laws when we graduated. It is the one thing that everyone can use.

  5. I have the same question as Stephanie- what field is he going into?

How about alumni license plate holder/frame things from his university?

  6. I'm never good in these situatuions. If I don't give them a decent amount of cash I give them a decent sized gift card so somehwere they like to shop1

  7. I don't see any problem with the money either. It's the universal gift card! Everyone can use it. And if he really needs something, he will know what to get, and have some money from you to help. Good luck! :)

  9. I like Nettie's idea- a gift certificate to a restaurant so they can celebrate (especially if they are poor like we were).
