In Search...

We just picked a new schedule for our book club for next year. I had a book planned that I was going to do because it was the 100th year since its publication...well I found out right before book club that the anniversary is actually in 2008, so I will have to wait another year to choose that book. I am supposed to do book club at my house in February, and I thought it would be fun to do a classic romance...something along the lines of Pride and Prejudice, but I have no ideas. So I am asking for help. Do you know of any good "classic" romances?

  1. That's fun you get to pick a romance! Here are some suggestions. I suggest you read the book first to make sure you feel it's appropriate and a good match for your book club. Good luck choosing! :)

    Scarlet Pimpernel - Baroness Orczy

Gone with the Wind - Margaret Mitchell

Jane Erye - Charlott Bronte (This one can be a little dark)

Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte (Also can be a little dark)

Phantom of the Opera - Gaston Leroux

Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen

  2. We picked Persuasion by Jane Austen for our book club next month and Little Women for December. After that we are not sure. We've been reading mostly Deseret Book books, but wanted a change.

    Good luck with the picking.

  3. I don't know if this technically counts as a romance but there is a book called "I Capture the Castle" that I really love. It is written by the same author who wrote "101 Dalmations." It is a great book.

  4. I love Jane Eyre. I always thought reading "The Princess Bride" would be fun too.

  5. we are just restarting our book club after a sevearl month hiatus. I will be back here to check what others are suggesting!

I just read the Scarlet Pimpernel and it would be a fun easy read for a book club. Anything by Jane Austen is always good too!

Romance isn't my favorite but my mom just read and loved Rebecca.

  6. Is it a ward book club? If not, I heartily recommend Possession by A.S. Byatt. It might be a little on the racy side for a ward club, but it's a really intelligent romance. I also love Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner, which is really a triple romance-- two couples and the friendship between them. If you don't want to go classic, I also like The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffeneger (sp?)
